FIO started with a shared vision: old school wines using long elevage and traditional techniques to deliver natural stabilization. The three forces behind FIO are Dirk Niepoort, his son Daniel and Mosel winegrower Philipp Kettern.
They quickly came to the same conclusion: it had to be Mosel with its spectacular steep, unique terroir.

And it could only be Riesling: the world’s most noble grape.
The naked facts: The vines are all grown on steep slopes and spontaneously fermented. They are given copious time on the lees in old Mosel fuders, and bottled unfiltered with no to minimal sulfur added.
Once the wines have settled at their own pace, they are left to mature further for up to two years in the bottle.
Never lose the thread.
